With the holiday fast approaching, the Posse reached out to some top barbecue joints to see what they’re offering to help bring some great Thanksgiving BBQ to your dining table this year.
We didn’t find any places open for regular business on Thanksgiving, preferring their staffs spend the day with family and friends. In the true spirit of the holiday, our friends at Slow Bone in Dallas and Meat U Anywhere in Trophy Club are both holding events to help feed the less fortunate.
Here’s what we heard from 11 of the the Posse’s favorite joints around Texas. Happy Thanksgiving BBQ to you and your family from the Posse!
Hays County Bar-B-Que, San Marcos: Michael Hernandez, Owner
We are taking orders for whole smoked turkeys $39.99 each (approx 10-12 lb), spiral cut smoked glazed hams $49.99 each (approx 8-9 lb), also people can buy the Bundle deal which includes: 1 Smoked turkey, 1 Smoked ham, 1 pecan pie,1 apple pie and 1 pumpkin pie for $119.98. Lastly we are asking folks to pick up their orders on Wednesday the 22nd by 4:00 pm. Please note we will be closing early on the 22nd and will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
Lockhart Smokehouse, Dallas & Plano: Jill Bergus, Co-Owner
We are offering smoked turkeys for $75 for a 10-12 lb. pre-cook weight, feeds 8-10 people. Also available are five different sides that feed 10-12 people from $35-$38. All food will be cold and come with heating instructions. Cutoff order date (if we do not sell out before) is Monday, Nov. 20 at 7:30pm and must be picked up by Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 4:30 pm. Louie Mueller Barbecue, Taylor: Wayne Mueller, Owner/Pitmaster
We are offering small turkeys (feeds 6-8), large turkeys (10-12), smoked bone in hams (10-12 lbs) and turkey breast (10-12 lbs). All can be ordered by calling the restaurant 512.352.6206 or can be ordered online through our website at TexasBBQ.com. We will be closed on Thursday and Friday Nov. 24-25 reopening Saturday 11/26 at 10 am for normal service.
Meat U Anywhere, Trophy Club: David Sedino, Marketing
We are offering pre-ordered meals for Thanksgiving, for pickup only. Click here for the link to order. On Thanksgiving Day, we are closed to the public but we host at the Trophy Club location several hundred clients of DFW Metroport Meals on Wheels, and on-duty first responders. This is the second year after a very successful first year in 2016. This is another of my brother Andy’s many ways of giving back to the community. There’s a great story there of the people who show up; one young woman who lives with her parents told me how grateful they were to be there because they literally had no money and no idea what they would have done if we had not opened the doors for them and others.
Miller’s Smokehouse, Belton: Zach Oldhom, Marketing
The plan right now is to continue our tradition of pit smoked whole turkeys. We’re thinking of offering a little combination package as well where you’d get a turkey and one of Momma Miller’s whole pie desserts for just $10 more. We appreciate everything ya’ll do for the BBQ community!
Pecan Lodge, Dallas: Diane Fourton, Co-Owner/Boss Lady
We are currently accepting Thanksgiving BBQ pre-orders on our website, for smoked turkeys, hams and sides for pick up the day before Thanksgiving. We’re always closed the day of and the day after to give everyone a chance to spend the holiday with their families. Same thing on Christmas Day.
Pinkerton’s Barbecue, Houston: Grant Pinkerton, Owner/Pitmaster
We are going to be offering pre-order briskets, turkey breasts, beef ribs and brisket tamales. We won’t be open for service on Thanksgiving Day itself, but will be open the day before and then reopen for the weekend. We are opening our pre-orders the day after Halloween.
Slow Bone, Dallas: Jeffery Hobbs, Owner/Pitmaster
We are offering our traditional menu for pre-orders. All pre order items must be picked up by Wednesday, Nov. 22. We will then open to the public on Thanksgiving Day, 12 pm-4 pm, for Freebird, Slow Bone’s free meal for our community.

Smoke Sessions Barbecue, Royse City: Chad Sessions, Owner/Pitmaster
We will be offering whole turkeys (12-15 lbs), $50 for pickup Wednesday 11/22 between 6-8pm or for $60 for Thanksgiving morning pickup between 9-11am. All turkeys will be packaged in a foil pan inside an oven bag so that they will be easily heated. Turkeys will have to be pre-ordered and paid for no later than Sunday 11/19.
Winner’s BBQ, Plano & Cedar Hill: Maegan Jackson, Co-Owner
We are taking pre-orders for pick up only on Thanksgiving morning. They just have to email us their order at [email protected] and receive a confirmation back with pickup time. We are limited on turkey requests! We won’t be open to the public on Thanksgiving, just for pickup orders.
